Testing my camera

Today has been one hell of a day. I tested my camera today, works fine but the lead I borrowed from my good friend didn’t fit it, and the original one was damaged when my flat got flooded. So I thought to myself, better go buy a new wire. Well the folks at PC world should have one or two I said, so off I trotted into bradford. “ugh no I dunt fink we gut thes mate” was the reply from the so called “expert” that served me. Goodness gratious, a PC show that doesnt stock a fire wire, typical. In despiration I bought an XD card reader which will allow me to put stuff with ease on an off the card. I also bought a new voice recorder as I need to document interviews professionally in accordance to academic regulations.

Any way I decided this evening to test the reader and it works fine, so I took the opertunity to take some photos of my house and collection for those interested. Hope you like them…..

We all love a game of pinball

I just love old arcade machines, perhaps this is why I have one- but theres just so many and they cost an arm and a leg. My favorite however has been pinball machines. I remember playing these at Hornsey and Scarbough as a child with my grandma who tought me how to play. I remember when in one aracde I came accross a Doctor who pinball machine and ever since then my heart as ached for one. However, alas I still do not have and most have emigrated over to the USA to American collectors. Often they sell for over 1K on ebay so thats out of my budget.

However I have recently discovered the joys of MEME emulation an visual pinball- a program that simulates any pinball machine ever made. I was overjoyed when I found the doctor who rom for it and have been playing it on and off for a few months. I’ve finally worked out all the bugs, and even discovered how to edit the table a tad to make game play easier. Needless to say, its just as fun as the real thing but I still want the real one.

The above video comes from my screencapture software, so pardon the lag. It shows the emulated pinball table in action, and my good self kicking some Dalek ass (If they had them)

ALWAYS SOMETHING HAPPENS

Sometimes I really, and I mean really think God plays a practical joke on me whenever I really don’t need one.

This evening GW and I were working on our website sorting out the item categories, whilst at the same time I was doing important reading for my trip next week and what happens, blood suddenly drips on my keyboard. For no apparent reason my right eye has started to bleed again. Mavalous, probably a detached retina on the way. Why does this always happen to me at these times.

Luckily I have a octors appoinment on monday so I hope I get the all clear but still, surely, it cant be normal for ones eye to suddenly start dripping blood. Man I am so fustrated I think i’m going to explode in rage. I cannot even begin to tell you how fustrated I am at this perpetual degenirative condition. I just want to have a normal life and time and time again my eye problems take that away from me.

Honestly when will they sort out attaching eyes to optic nerves, I want to be the first in line for an eye transplant when they do.

Seattle trip- Final preperations

My Seattle trip has been on the cards for a fair few months now, ever since I finalised my thesis idea for my MA. My goal is to visit the Tsubaki Gran shrine of America, a Japanese shinto shrine located in seattle. The nature of my investigation is to see how exactly do the religions of Japan operate outside their native envirment of Japan. DO they have the same rituals, do the people still practice more than one faith, are the cultural elements still present and most importantly do the people attending it view it as a pure form of the religion ?

I am very excited about this trip as I have found little literature on the subject bar a text written by Dr. Yukitaka Yamamoto explaining some background to the shrine and the practice of Jinja Shintoism. This means that any research into this shrine will likely be well received by the academic community.

Doctor Who Collectables

Silvester McCoy

"There are worlds out there where the sky is burning, where the sea's asleep and the rivers dream, people made of smoke and cities made of song. Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do."
